Here are some sounded advises that I took before I started any taste test but they mostly aim for beginner whisky drinker but they sounded enough for me to apply for the other:
- Neat (Spirit as it is without anything added to it): If you taste testing, trying as it is is the best option while it advisable for beginner to try at least once.
- With water (Spirit with water added, water amount depend): For just trying but not taste testing, this is mostly the recommend one for beginner.
- With Ice (Spirit with ice added, ice amount depend): Not much is stated for beginner in this section but you can think it similar as "with water" but cooler as in cold.
Afterthought (After Tasting #1-3 [vodka, rum, gin, tequila, whisky/whiskey, and brandy] plus 4 & 5 [whisky/whiskey]) [04/02/17]: My opinion: don't like it. Unless you like the smell of rubbing alcohol and burning in throat with loss of taste bud in the process then go ahead. I can only say that vodka, gin, and brandy, if these have less alcohol content then they might taste better but that my opinion. All of these taste harsh and even sometime mighty bitter. It is not for beginner for sure and not for everyone that for sure.
