Preparation Needed In Trying Hard Cider [Alcoholic Beverage] From Beginner for Beginner [Pt2]

[I don't Promote Drinking and/or Drinking & Driving]
This (blog post) is for people who never have/try hard cider and/or alcoholic beverage before and for whatever reason want to try some. Because of their preference taste is unknown (to me) with whether they may or may not like hard cider after trying; I going with the routes with the less cost to their wallet for those who may turn out to NOT like beer. I believe there is a saying "Are you a beer person or Are you a wine person", that how my thought process came to this.

This is coming from a beginner for beginner; if you ask an expert they may tell you stuff that most likely not in layman term and/or too advances for beginner to understands most of it. Layman term for the masses.

[Hard Cider Is An Alcoholic Beverage]

  • Alcohol can and will impair your physical and mental ability (Even if you have a sip. The degree of impairment depend from person to person as well as the ABV% and the amount consumed)
  • Alcohol can and will cause health problems (depend on the person personal health issue and past health issue)
  • You MUST be at the Legal AGE mark by your countries to purchase and allow to Legally consume it within that country's law.
  • Please obey the LAW and read & understand all warning label on all [Alcoholic Beverage].

[There are no substitute for the essence of what hard cider flavor taste like]

Like the topic stated; I could not find nor know of any normal foods or beverages that will taste like what most hard cider taste like. I'm sure there are normal food or beverage out there that does taste like hard cider but nothing that most people can get their hand on. I can only assume the raw ingredient of hard cider, the cider (apple), will have the flavor however unless you know where to get that type of cider (apple). It unlikely you can taste test it, neither can I can confirm if this assumption of my is true so forget about it. The only thing I can say is brace on tight and try the real deal.

[Other Flavor You will Encounter In Hard Cider]

  • Sweet - It main ingredient are cider (apple) which is a fruit but it rare for traditional hard cider to be sweet like juice, it not the sweet one would normally think of sweet.
  • Bittersweet - Certain type of cider (apple) will have a natural bittersweet flavor in it which most traditional hard cider will have
  • Sour - You may or may not encounter this flavor
  • Bitter - You may sometime encounter bitterness which is different from bittersweet for this is not from the cider (apple) but of another ingredient they (producer) added.
  • Dry - This is an effect, not a flavor. When stated on the label or if you taste the effect, it simply mean that all flavor will be loss not long after consuming the beverage.
  • Semi-(something) - The middle ground of something, it will not give the full effect of flavor of whatever semi it is.

[The following information is probably only apply to people who are living or visiting the USA.]

[Availability]

Now even if some magazine article stated that hard cider is starting to get popular in the US doesn't change the status quo of how available it is or the number of choices you can selected from on which hard cider to buy.

The availability and which hard cider (brands) are available to be purchase laid heavily on where they (the people) are currently at when purchasing it. (All these are based on my personal experiences and minor researches)
  • Not all store that sell alcoholic beverage have hard cider (There are exception to this)
    • This depend on your location where you are purchasing from
  • Store that do sell hard cider are limited to one or a few (national) brands (There are exception to this)
    • If you did your own research, you may find a store (hopefully) in your local area that sell other brand and/or you live or visiting a city where there are higher chance of such selection.
  •  Specialized Alcohol Store are always an exception to the above statement beside large cities.
    • Specialized Alcohol Store give you both the availability and the selection only limited by the size of the store.

[Recommendation]

I don't usually recommend things like alcoholic to people because it bad for you but since I did stated that there no normal food or beverage as a substitute for what hard cider taste like then I will have to. This recommendation is for people who are limited in their selection by their location but I would also recommend those people with wider selection of hard cider at their location to take look. This recommendation is also for first timer hard cider taster/drinker and it based on the availability.

Angry Orchard: The #1 selling US hard cider brand; if a store sell hard cider you more then likely to find one version of "Angry Orchard" there.

Woodchuck: One of the top 10 selling US hard cider brand.

I chosen two top selling (national) US hard cider brand based on the fact that one is #1 selling US hard cider brand for several years and still is and the other is one of the top 10 selling US hard cider brand in the US for my recommendation. By having more sell, it mean it more available in most store that why I chosen these two brand. The other reason is that both have a selection of variety of hard cider within it own brand.

Now here come the choices on which to pick as your first US hard cider taste experience. Would you jump right in or do it gradually? If you going jump right in then "Angry Orchard" is the one to go but if you want do gradual step then "Woodchuck" is the way to go because when I try "Woodchuck" hard cider it always taste like there juice like flavor in it while experiencing some cider flavor as well. Now pick your pick of choices or do your own research and think about it on your own, whatever go is up to you in the end.

[Cost]

This is assuming you pick one of the brand above in which case it be in a pack. It probably cost around $10.00 USD given the fact it's be sold in a 6-pack or more and I wouldn't know what they get. Like I stated; what available is what available.
